Pakistan-Saudi Defence Pact: Which Fighter Jets Did PAF Deploy?

Saudi Arabia and Pakistan recently activated the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA). Therefore, Pakistan deployed powerful military assets and fighter jets at the King Abdulaziz Air Base in the Eastern Province. So, which aircraft actually made the journey? Current reports confirm that the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) deployed its F-16 fighter jets. Specifically, the aerial contingent includes between 10 and 18 of these formidable jets. Importantly, the agreement treats any aggression against one nation as a direct attack on both. Conversely, Saudi Arabia continues to provide crucial economic lifelines to Islamabad. Just before this deployment, PM Sharif met with Saudi Finance Minister Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Jadaan. Riyadh assured Pakistan of full financial support to navigate ongoing economic challenges. Moreover, Saudi officials deeply trust Pakistan’s diplomatic skills. Specifically, they highlighted Islamabad’s critical mediation role between the United States and Iran. Historically, this reciprocal relationship mirrors 2018, when Riyadh backed Pakistan with a massive $6 billion financial package.
